Microsoft has surprised the tech community by announcing the discontinuation of the Azure Kinect Developer Kit.
The
Azure Kinect
DK played a significant role in advancing AI vision solutions.
The Kinect technology was initially popular as a gaming motion-sensing device in 2010.
After being relaunched as Azure Kinect DK in 2019
Azure Kinect DK included a depth sensor, 4K camera, and sensitive microphones for AI and depth-sensing technology.
Existing developer kit users can continue using their devices without disruptions.
The Azure Kinect DK will be available for purchase until October's end or while stocks last.
Partners like Analog Devices, SICK A.G., and Orbbec have licenses to use Microsoft's iToF depth sensing technology.
