Amazon to Boost UK Economy with £8 Billion Investment, Expanding AWS

AWS announced a significant investment of £8 billion in the UK over the next five years to expand its data center operations and enhance the country's digital infrastructure.

The investment is expected to contribute $14 billion to the UK's GDP by 2028 and create around 14,000 full-time equivalent jobs annually

UK Finance Minister Rachel Reeves welcomed the investment, describing it as a boost to economic revival and a signal that Britain is a prime business destination.

AWS has been expanding in the UK since opening its first data center in 2016 and currently operates two WaveLength Zones, three Availability Zones, and multiple Edge Locations.

AWS Vice President Tanuja Randery highlighted that the investment would help UK organizations adopt cloud computing and AI technologies to drive innovation, productivity, and global competitiveness.

AWS has played a crucial role in supporting UK companies like easyJet, NatWest, and AstraZeneca, helping them reduce costs, increase flexibility, and accelerate innovation.

Since 2020, AWS has invested £3 billion to support thousands of UK workers annually. With the new commitment, AWS's total investment in the UK is expected to exceed £11 billion between 2020 and 2028.
