WhatsApp rolls out picture-in-picture mode on iOS beta

For iOS beta users, Meta-owned WhatsApp is launching a brand-new picture-in-picture mode for video chatting. Users would be able to open and access other apps while on a WhatsApp video chat with the new feature. Especially, the latest feature option is only available to a limited number of iOS beta testers.

As per WABetaInfo, WhatsApp has made the new Picture-in-Picture feature available to certain beta iOS beta testers who already have installed the new WhatsApp beta for iOS 22.24.0.79 upgrade. More users will be able to use the feature in the following days.

What exactly is WhatsApp picture-in-picture mode?

As shown in the screenshot of the new feature launched by WABetaInfo, the latest picture-in-picture mode will enable the users to carry out multiple tasks on the phone while on a WhatsApp video chat. Noticeably, if a user leaves the WhatsApp app during a video call, the picture-in-picture view will appear on the main window immediately.

This allows iPhone users to access other apps without needing to close the video call window or pause their camera. Users will be able to switch off or momentarily deactivate the video call view as needed.

Besides that, as of now, the picture-in-picture mode is available on iOS 16.1 and later, so it is possible that it will be one of the features supported by the upgrade that carries official support for iOS 16. WhatsApp is also operating to add support for iOS 15 devices.

Importantly, Android users can already use the picture-in-picture mode for video chatting. In addition, WhatsApp allows both Android and iOS users to enable picture-in-picture mode when viewing shared video files on the app.

To enable picture-in-picture mode, navigate to your device’s Settings> Apps and Notifications> WhatsApp> Advanced Picture-in-picture.

Meanwhile, WhatsApp is testing another update that re-designs and expands the alternatives mostly under the disappearing messages quick access button. Besides that, the Meta-owned instant messenger platform has updated and released eight emojis and it will add 21 further new emojis to improve users’ messaging experiences. The emoticon update is now available in the most recent beta Build on the Play Store.

What is the ChatGPT, which has taken the internet by storm?

The capability of ChatGPT to produce human-like responses has attracted a lot of attention.

On Wednesday, the AI research firm OpenAI unveiled ChatGPT, a dialogue-based prototype chatbot that can comprehend and reply to real language. In much less than a week, it has already surpassed a million members and has subsequently gained popularity over the internet.

The majority of users are in awe of the AI-powered bot’s impressive vocal intelligence. Since it may provide straightforward solutions to complicated problems, it has even been referred to as a Google alternative by certain users.

It is a smart chatbot that has conversational interactions. According to OpenAI, the dialogue style enables ChatGPT to respond to follow-up queries, acknowledge its errors, refute false premises, and reject unsuitable requests. It is claimed that it can respond to almost everything, including theoretical essays, mathematical solutions, and stories.

OpenAI noted, “We’ve trained a model called ChatGPT which interacts in a conversational way. The dialogue format makes it possible for ChatGPT to answer follow-up questions, admit its mistakes, challenge incorrect premises, and reject inappropriate requests.”

Based on the GPT-3.5 language model, ChatGPT generates text that resembles human speech using deep learning. ChatGPT is more interesting than the prior GPT-3 model, which just accepted text prompts and attempted to build on them with its own created text.

It produces detailed text far more effectively and can even produce poetry. Memory is yet another distinctive quality. The bot can recapitulate past remarks made in a chat to the user by recalling them.

But even while many individuals were astounded by the bot’s ability, some noticed a few limitations. Misinformation and prejudice are still common in ChatGPT, as they were in earlier iterations of GPT. For example, the model may provide incorrect solutions to algebraic problems.

However, some people may be duped into thinking things are genuine since it comes off as so certain in its incredibly thorough responses. Despite its drawbacks, ChatGPT is a delightful little bot to chat with. After registering for it on its official website, one can test it out.

Apple devices of skiers accidentally call 911 due to its crash detection tech

Skiers are inadvertently dialing 911 thanks to the Crash Detection technology included in the iPhone 14 Pro, iPhone 14, and new Apple Watch models, claims Utah news outlet KSL.

In a county in Utah, emergency dispatchers told a local media source that they are experiencing an increase in unintentional 911 calls from skiers who own new Apple products equipped with the company’s crash-detection system.

Crash Detection is a brand-new security feature that Apple unveiled in September. The 2022 Apple Watch devices and the iPhone 14 editions all have cutting-edge sensors that enable Crash Detection to function. The feature has been rigorously tested, and Apple has so far released updates to make it better.

However, it appears that the iPhone 14 or the newest Apple Watch when skiing could accidentally trigger Crash Detection. If it detects a crash, Apple’s crash-detection system alerts users with a message and a sound.

The message can be ignored, but if it is not done so within 20 seconds, the system sends an automated message with the user’s GPS coordinates and phone number to the nearest emergency contact center.

Summit County Dispatch Center supervisor Suzie Butterfield told KSL, “We will get a call in that says the owner of this Apple Watch or iPhone has either had a severe crash or they’ve been involved in a car accident.

They won’t respond to you when you first start talking because I don’t even think they knew that they did it, but on callback … they’re usually like, ‘Oh I’m sorry, I was skiing. Everything’s fine.”

Furthermore, Butterfield claimed that she gets 3 to 5 emergency calls every day from an Apple device. She didn’t receive any calls related to any actual crashes.

That indicates that Crash Detection made the call after mistaking skiing for a car accident. However, Butterfield views this technology as a tool rather than a hindrance. She warned that a skier could hit a tree and be rendered unconscious while remaining invisible to other skiers. She also cautioned skiers against disabling Crash Detection on their Apple Watch and iPhone 14.

Rollercoasters have also been known to activate the Crash Detection technology in the new iPhone and Apple Watch models. The Dollywood theme park has posted cautions for two of its most furious roller coasters, informing Apple users that the ride’s “dynamic movement” may cause their Apple watches or iPhones to initiate an emergency call.

Recently Apple released an update to iOS 16.1.2 that contains “Crash Detection optimizations.” Apple has not explained what this means, although it probably aims to reduce unintentional activation in situations when there hasn’t actually been a car accident.

Apple released the first beta of iOS 16.2 to devs in October, and the company announced that customers would be able to submit a complaint to the company when Emergency SOS has been inadvertently enabled in the future iOS version, iOS 16.2. Users can remark on the removal of the Emergency SOS function in the iOS 16.2 beta from Apple.

Neuralink brain chip to begin human trials in 6 months

After the company missed prior deadlines he had set, Elon Musk said on Wednesday that he anticipates a wireless brain chip developed by his company Neuralink to start human clinical testing in six months.

Elon Musk, a multibillionaire and the CEO of Twitter, stated on Wednesday that a wireless gadget built by Neuralink is set to start human clinical testing in six months. Neuralink is a neurotechnology company. According to Reuters, Musk stated that the restoration of vision is one of its initial intended uses.

The company, which has offices in Texas and the San Francisco Bay Area, has been involved in testing on animals as it waits for US regulatory approval for human clinical trials.

Musk noted, “We want to be extremely careful and certain that it will work well before putting a device into a human. The progress at first, particularly as it applies to humans, will seem perhaps agonizingly slow, but we are doing all of the things to bring it to scale in parallel. “So, in theory, progress should be exponential.”

According to Musk, the Neuralink device’s first two human uses would be to restore vision and allow muscle movement in people who are unable to do so. Musk said, “Even if someone has never had a vision, ever, like they were born blind, we believe we can still restore vision.” A tiny device, electrode-laced wires, and a robot that removes a little portion of a person’s skull and inserts it into the brain are the components of the Neuralink product.

The event was initially scheduled for October 31 but Musk canceled it a few days early without providing a reason. More than a year ago, Neuralink gave its last public demonstration, which featured a monkey playing Pong on a computer.

Musk, who also owns the electric vehicle maker Tesla, the rocket company SpaceX, and the social networking site Twitter, is renowned for his aspirational plans to save humanity and colonize Mars. He holds the same lofty goals for Neuralink as well, which he founded in 2016.

He intends to create a chip that would enable the brain to control intricate electronic equipment, eventually restoring motor function to paralyzed persons and treating disorders of the brain including Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s, and dementia. He also discusses combining artificial intelligence with the brain. However, Neuralink is going behind schedule.

In a 2019 presentation, Musk stated that his goal was to win regulatory permission by the end of 2020. Then, in late 2021, he declared at a conference that he wanted to begin human trials this year.

Current and former employees claim that Neuralink has routinely missed internal deadlines for obtaining FDA approval to begin human studies. According to Reuters, Musk approached rival Synchron early this year about a prospective investment after complaining to Neuralink staff members about their sluggish progress.

By successfully implanting its device in a patient in the United States for the first time in July, Synchron achieved a significant milestone. In 2021, it got regulatory approval from the US for use in human trials, and studies involving four Australians have been completed.

Is the Nintendo Switch Pro worth buying in 2023?

For years, there have been rumors of the Nintendo Switch Pro However, the upgraded Switch sequel has not yet materialized.

A recent Nvidia leak appears to corroborate the Tegra239 SoC’s existence, which is generally thought to power the Switch Pro. But even if all of this turns out to be completely off the mark, an improved version of the Nintendo Switch may be in the works.

Early in 2019, rumors began to spread regarding the Nintendo Switch Pro. In a March 2019 article, The Wall Street Journal stated that Nintendo was manufacturing two new Switch models, citing “parts suppliers and software developers for Nintendo.”

The second described a more potent, full HD Switch model targeted at the more hard-core market. The first described a “cheaper option for casual gamers,” which sounds remarkably similar to the Switch Lite. The rumors have continued ever since.

In a recent interview, Shuntaro Furukawa, Nintendo’s president, added that there won’t be a new Switch in the current fiscal year, which runs through March 2023. However, the Japanese gaming behemoth has backed off from complete denial, firmly denying that work is being done on an improved Switch system.

As per rumors, the new Switch will be able to output 4K video, which gamers have been yearning for and were unhappy not to see in the Switch OLED. In fact, playing through Bowser’s palace in Mario Kart or exploring Hyrule in Breath of the Wild would be immensely more immersive in sharp 4K.

A more powerful CPU and NVIDIA DLSS AI rendering capabilities are rumored to be included in the Switch Pro. According to a leak from Nintendo, the Switch Pro will have power comparable to a PS4 — quite astounding for a portable device. There have been plenty of rumors and fan-made renderings teasing the Nintendo Switch Pro’s potential appearance.

Fans have enjoyed speculating on what the future of the Switch’s design might hold, from a completely different model with a four-cartridge port to a variety of pleasantly vintage suggestions. There have been rumors that a larger display and more ergonomic Joy-Cons are on the way.

The OLED Switch increased the size from 6.2 inches to 7 inches, which was one aspect where it did not fall short. With that in view, it’s possible that the Switch Pro will go much further and provide even more inches of screen space.

The Nintendo Switch currently has a 32GB storage capacity, a 720p LCD display, and a bespoke Nvidia Tegra X1 processor. The Nintendo Switch’s most recent update, which took place in August 2019, increased battery life, bringing it from 6.5 hours to 9 hours of playtime.

Bloomberg stated in March 2021 that a new Nintendo 4K Switch with an OLED display might be released before the holidays. In order to prepare for a Christmas launch, Nintendo reportedly asked the Samsung Display Co. to create seven-inch, 720p OLED displays.

The original Switch release was four years ago, so it seems fitting to upgrade the device now. There haven’t been official signs to date that Nintendo is prepared to introduce the Nintendo Switch Pro or any other next-generation console. However, the rumors suggest the Nintendo Switch Pro might be a good buy when it releases in 2023.

Elon Musk claims Apple has threatened to remove the Twitter app

Elon Musk went on a rant against Apple, Twitter’s top advertiser, on Monday after claiming that the company threatened to remove the social media network from its App Store without any clarification and had pretty much-stopped marketing on Twitter.

The rant highlighted the enormous power that Apple, the world’s biggest firm, possesses over the fate of the world’s richest man’s Twitter gamble. The rant also hinted at Apple’s potential role as a check on Musk’s chaotic reign at Facebook; Apple has previously annulled App Store permissions from companies that violated its security protocols or supported violence and other troublesome content.

If Twitter is removed from the App Store, new users will be unable to install the app on their iPhones and iPads, and current users will be unable to access updates. The accused threat tends to add to the marketer pressure, staff departures, and regulatory scrutiny that Musk is facing as he pursues to overhaul years of Twitter guidelines and account expulsions in his quest to promote “free speech.”

Under a document analysed by The Washington Post that was prepared from internal Twitter data, Apple was the top advertiser on Twitter in the first quarter, paying 48 USD million on advertisements on the social network. That quarter, Apple’s spending accounted for much more than 4 per cent of Twitter’s revenue.

Elon Musk attempted to pressurize the firm and CEO Tim Cook in several tweets for halting spending during the holiday shopping season.

Requests for comment were not returned by Apple. Musk’s tweets sought to rekindle long-standing concerns and political scrutiny about Apple’s market dominance. He posted a link to a 2020 parody video made by Apple for Epic Games criticising the App Store as a “monopoly.”

The video is a parody of Apple’s famous “1984” Super Bowl commercial, which Epic, the creator of the Fortnite video game, launched after it was removed from Apple’s store for violating its in-app payment rules. He also asked his and over 119 million followers to vote on whether Apple should publish all censorship acts it has carried out that affect its customers.

“Did you know Apple puts a secret 30% tax on everything you buy through their App Store?,” Musk tweeted, with the caption “Spoiler alert.”
