Twitter Blue Set to Relaunch with Higher Price for iOS Users

According to Esther Crawford, director of product management at Twitter, the Twitter Blue membership will resume on Monday, starting in five nations.

Twitter said that its monthly membership service, Twitter Blue, would resume on Monday for $8. However, customers who choose to subscribe through the Twitter app on their iPhone rather than the Twitter webpage will incur an additional $3 charge.

According to the firm, users can subscribe to the updated service for $8 per month via the web but $11 per month via Apple iOS. Twitter Blue will allow users to edit tweets, upload 1080p videos, and receive a blue tick upon account verification.

Twitter noted, “We’re relaunching @TwitterBlue on Monday – subscribe on the web for $8/month or on iOS for $11/month to get access to subscriber-only features, including the blue checkmark.”

After Elon Musk’s takeover in November, the most recent version of Twitter Blue—which permitted users to purchase a blue-check verification—was first introduced. Immediately after a surge of impersonations on Twitter, it was suspended. Late in November, Musk once more put the launch on hold as he tried to avoid the 30% fee that Apple’s App Store levies on the majority of its sales.

Musk has previously said that the cost was actually ten times higher than it ought to be and accused Apple of engaging in monopolistic behavior. Musk also asserted that Apple “threatened” to remove the Twitter app from the app store, but after speaking with Apple CEO Tim Cook on  30th November, he referred to it as a “misunderstanding.”

Despite media claims that the corporation was exploring measures to offset costs levied in the App Store, Twitter did not clarify why Apple customers were charged higher than other users on the web.

Twitter has previously made the blue checkmark accessible to anyone who pays $8 monthly to democratize the status of the blue checkmark, which was once used to authenticate reliable and notable accounts. As a result, numerous individuals purchased blue ticks to impersonate well-known individuals.

Crawford stated in a tweet that impersonation, which she claims is against Twitter Rules, has been combated by Twitter by adding a review process before giving a blue tick to an account.

Twitter may further color-code timelines with the relaunch of its subscription service by adding gold checkmarks for corporations and, shortly, grey checkmarks for governments and “multilateral accounts”.

Crawford tweeted, “Businesses who previously had relationships with Twitter will receive gold checks on Monday. We will soon open this up to more businesses via a new process.”

Twitter has advised users that changing their handle, display name, or profile picture will temporarily remove the blue checkmark from their account till their account is verified again.

As per Twitter, Twitter Blue is “currently available on iOS only in the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and the UK, with plans to expand”. Musk has made it plain that he intends Twitter to rely less on advertising, which generated $5.1 billion in revenue for the company last year and constituted 90% of its total revenue.

This need has grown more pressing when the CEO of Tesla claimed a “massive drop in revenue” as a result of advertisers leaving the platform over worries about content moderation, which were made worse by the emergence of “verified” impostor accounts.

Google to shut down Duplex AI for web

Google has announced the disappearance of its Duplex on the Web service which is a tool powered by AI that was released in 2019 to assist users with a wide variety of online tasks such as purchasing airline tickets or improving the efficiency of the check-in process for flights on airline websites.

“Any automation features enabled by Duplex on the Web will no longer be supported after this date,” said the update.

“As we continue to improve the Duplex experience, we’re responding to the feedback we’ve heard from users and developers about how to make it even better,” a Google spokesperson told TechCrunch.

“By the end of this year, we’ll turn down Duplex on the Web and fully focus on making AI advancements to the Duplex voice technology that helps people most every day,” the spokesperson added.

The service was first officially confirmed at Google I/O 2019 as just an extension to its call-automation Duplex technology. As well as, while its use case was primarily limited to purchasing movie tickets, the facility subsequently expanded to also include data breach protection and check additional help or aid on e-commerce online sites.

Google has not clarified the reason why it is closing down the service, but as per TechCrunch, the cost of training and fine-tuning resource-intensive AI models might be the reason. Besides that, if website owners prevent the crawler from indexing their content, the performance of Duplex on the Web may decrease badly.

The company plans to invest less in improving Google Assistant and Google Assistant-powered services for non-Google devices.

Google positions it as an assistant that can aid you with mundane activities which include bookings and reservations, where it can contact the location and handle the bookings for you.

In 2019, Google introduced Duplex for the web which was an offshoot of the assistant which would assist you in filling out web application forms to make the user experience more seamless.

Spotify Wrapped 2022: When it’s coming?

Spotify released its 2022 Wrapped recaps on Wednesday, the yearly digital journey that digs through your tastes in music for the year.

Wrapped this year includes new features such as your Myers-Briggs-style “listening” personality type and a tracker that monitors how your musical mood changes throughout the day. Wrapped, as usual, summarises your top artists, genres, songs, and podcasts, as well as overall minutes, listened on Spotify.

It is a popular feature on the streaming service and the centerpiece of a huge marketing campaign. Spotify is the world’s largest music streaming service by the number of users, so its annual data recap is one way to gauge global listening habits.

Wrapped recaps for this year include:

• Your Listening Personality: Users are classified into one of 16 music personalities, such as the Deep Diver, Replayer, Adventurer, or Fanclubber, based on how they listen.

• Audio Day: A step-by-step look at just how your music habits change during the day, with Spotify identifying your mood for the morning, day, and night. My morning mood is apparently “somber friendly,” whatever that is.

• Your Artist Messages: Following up on a feature introduced last year, Spotify is incorporating video cameos from the biggest artists into recaps. Last year, Spotify asked over 100 artists to record a thank-you notification for their fans. This year, over 40,000 people took part. If one or more of your top artists recorded a cameo, you might see one or more in your Wrapped feed.

Wrapped “creator” perceptions for artists and podcasters on Spotify are individualized microsites that delve into just how their fans listened to their music over the year.

This year, all of the ways of sharing your Wrapped on social networks have returned, as have new social cards to share on WhatsApp and Line. Snapchat also offers a personalized lens based on your Listening Personality.

How to watch your Wrapped recap?

Wrapped experiences are only available in the Spotify mobile app for Android and Apple iPhones and iPads. Just ensure you have the most recent version of the Spotify app, which is 8.7.78.

The app will include banners on the Home, Search, and Library tabs, in addition to a full “Your 2022 in Review” shelf on the Home tab. You can also search for “2022 Wrapped” in the Spotify app.

Once you’re on your Apple or Android device, simply visit this website, which will launch your Wrapped history in the app.

If you’re still unable to locate your Wrapped, it’s possible that you haven’t used Spotify enough just to generate enough data to create a personalized recap. To be eligible for Wrapped, users must stream at least about 30 tracks for a little more than 30 seconds and at least five artists between January 1 and early November.

Snapchat, a picture-sharing and instant-messaging app, has resisted coming to Windows, but it has now made its formal debut as a Progressive Web App on the Microsoft Store. Based on the recently released web version of Snapchat, Snapchat for Windows is a Progressive Web App (PWA) that can only be used with Microsoft’s Edge Browser.

There are no glaring differences or benefits between the mobile and web app. Since Snapchat Web is primarily a web app, its install size is tiny (1.4 MB) and it always stays up to current with any updates.

The user interface is similar to other web applications such as WhatsApp and Instagram. Based on the app store summary, one can install the PWA edition on up to 10 Windows systems as long one is signed into their Microsoft account.

Snap has also intensified its focus in regions like India, where it didn’t initially notice much demand a few years ago. In certain countries, including India, a paid edition of the application called Snapchat+ is now available. The app’s paid edition, Snapchat Plus, gives users greater benefits. In India, a subscription to Snapchat+ costs Rs 49 per month.

The Snap service is intended for “power users,” who must spend a monthly fee in exchange for access to certain premium features not offered to normal app users.

In India, Snapchat has also released the in-app Family Center and parenting settings. The controls enable parents to view contacts that their children have contacted in the past week as well as who their children communicate online.

In addition, Snapchat has teamed up with Amazon to offer users an AR try-on experience. Snapchat users will be able to test out eyewear designs from a variety of well-known brands on the e-commerce platform. According to Amazon, some of these are Persol, Maui Jim, Oakley, Ray-Ban, and Costa Del Mar.

A number of new shopping lenses will be released along with the debut of the eyewear line, and they will fall into three categories: reading glasses, sunglasses, and seasonal eyewear. This partnership between the two businesses comes after Snapchat recently announced a number of brand-friendly updates. This includes building AR shopping lenses, updating product details like pricing, and much more.

Given Snap’s treatment of Microsoft throughout the years, the revelation comes as a bit of a surprise. It may be recalled that the corporation previously declined to develop specific software for Windows phones, restricting its service to a particular demographic utilizing the Microsoft OS.

Despite this, some developers have attempted to introduce the Snap experience to the Windows ecosystem in the past by releasing third-party Snapchat applications on the Windows Phone application store.

One of these was the 6snap app, which was eliminated from the location in 2014 along with other outside apps. Snap even banned the accounts of those who used the “unauthorized programs” in an effort to dissuade Windows phone users from using such apps.
