When Dreams Turn to Reality: Samsung’s NEON is as Real as it Gets

Growing up, we have all read books about robots and humanoid creatures. We have all seen science-fiction movies with fully-automated houses and robots who do all the housework. But, did you ever think that this would someday be a reality? Thanks to advancements in science and technology, we are now closer than ever before to see such a revolution. The momentum for such a change has been gaining, and the wheels seem to be in motion. Recently, in an announcement, Samsung unveiled an AI-powered digital avatar or artificial human which resembles humans. This robot, the company claims, can converse with empathy and sympathy the way we do. The announcement came as a part of the 2020 CES, or Consumer Electronics Show. Samsung’s collaborators, Star Labs have made this new AI, called NEON, which frankly resembles something out of our dreams.

What is NEON?

This new technology will allow developers to create customized avatars on display boards, ads, and video games. Such beings may be modeled to look like anyone from TV anchors to mega movie-stars. They can even become our companions if you let them be, as per the California-based laboratory. Pranav Mistry, who is the Chief Executive at Star Labs said that NEON can serve as a constantly evolving friend retains memories. The humanoid chatbot will not replace humans, but rather make us even more human.

How realistic is NEON?

The people that NEON generates are super realistic people of sorts. The computationally generated virtual entity looks, talks and behaves exactly the way a human does, even being capable of emoting. The robot can also handle a variety of emotions and shows considerable intellect and reasoning. Therefore, the technology allows developers to create video chatbots that look, behave and talk like real people. While these robots aren’t all-knowing assistants like the ones seen with Iron Man, they behave a lot like humans themselves. They are independent beings which show emotion and learn from their experiences to evolve and adapt better to their surroundings. The bot might not be able to tell you about the weather, but can have real, deep conversations with you!

NEON bots form memories and have the ability to teach themselves new skills. However, they do not have a physical body to manifest, for now, but they might in the future. But due to their hyper-realistic approach NEONs can become teachers, advisers, actors, and even TV anchors. Though they resemble humans, they cannot be exact copies of someone alive because each one has a unique personality.

NEON and the Future

Even before arriving on the scene through the CES 2020, NEON had made a name for itself. The robot had generated a lot of buzz for Samsung, though no one knew what the project was about. Several tweets and teasers had come out by December before the unveiling to keep spectators and enthusiasts excited. The bots are even capable of conversing in other languages such as Hindi. While the lab is funded by Samsung, these bots aren’t their property. Star Labs aims at expanding by turning science fiction into reality.

Samsung, much like Apple and Amazon have realized that the best way to make useful devices is to use artificial intelligence as voice assistants. Every big fish in the field of technology is investing in this field, as they think it is the future. Very soon, such AI-powered bots will decide how we interact with the world around us and our gadgets. The bots run using a technology called Core R3, where the three Rs stand for Reality, Real-time and Responsive. It also makes use of a technology called Spectra, which handles the bot’s capacity to learn, memorize and emote.

The company will beta-launch Neon this year around the world, and will sell it via a license. Samsung also hopes that one-day NEON will appear in movies and news around the world. Let us hope that the future makes more of our dreams come true, with life resembling science fiction faster than imagined.

Samsung is Launching a Blockchain Smartphone Named KlaytnPhone

Samsung is releasing its foldable smartphone today in its home country, and along with that, the company has come with another announcement that includes a new blockchain-based smartphone. Yes, a post from Wall Streat Journal has revealed that Samsung is working on a new flagship smartphone that will support cryptocurrency and will be called as “KlaytnPhone.”

The company has already got about ten smartphones’ release this year, including the Samsung Galaxy Fold, Galaxy S10s, Galaxy Note 10s, and now, it looks like the company is not stopping on them only. Samsung has chosen the name KlaytnPhone for its blockchain smartphone, which is inspired by a South Korean cryptocurrency built by the subsidiary company, Ground X Corp, of Korean internet company Kakao.

The smartphone actually belongs to the Galaxy Note 10 series and has got most of the features similar to the smartphones in this series. But there will be an inbuilt crypto wallet and support for blockchain included in it. Like the foldable smartphone from Samsung, for the time being, KlaytnPhone will also be available only in South Korea. According to the WSJ, the early buyers will also get a specified amount of cryptocurrency coins, i.e., Klay from Ground X Corp.

Klay is a newly launched cryptocurrency that Kakao released last year in October through its spin-off arm Klaytn. Cryptocurrencies and blockchain have been a topic of discussion for all. And, even being around for the past decade, there have been many questions about the authenticity of these technologies. But most of the big tech companies have always stood in favour of it. So the main purpose of Samsung to develop such a smartphone may be to get people familiar with this very technology and make it more user-friendly.

According to the reports, the prices for the new KlaytnPhone will start at $1000. There have been no comments from the company as yet, and if believed, according to Cointelegraph’s reports, Samsung has already launched a blockchain supporting smartphone in March this year, which is Galaxy S10. The company was also planning to build its own cryptocurrency and has invested $2.9 million into the French cryptocurrency company Ledger.

Samsung Galaxy Fold Finally Ready for its First Launch in Korea

The much anticipated Samsung Galaxy Fold have been quite in trouble since the company had announced the very smartphone. There were problems with its screen as it was prone to damage when folded, but after all, it is a foldable phone. So the company had to delay the launch of the smartphone to make improvements to make its screen stronger. And, after five months of its actual release date, the company is ready for the very smartphone’s first release.

The company has finally set 6th September as its launch date, and the first country, to be getting its hands on the smartphone, is Korea. Though the company had already mentioned that the smartphone will be arriving in September, there was no announcement about the actual date.

“The category-defining Galaxy Fold is a device that defies the barriers of traditional smartphone design. Now, we’re excited to release this pioneering mobile technology, and allow consumers to experience it for themselves,” said DJ Koh, President and CEO of IT & Mobile Communications Division, Samsung Electronics.

The new smartphone will take a bit longer to reach the other countries, including the US, the UK France, Germany, Singapore, etc. Some of the “select” countries will also get the 5G version of the same. The smartphone will be available in two colours, i.e., Silver and Black.

Along with the new Samsung Galaxy Fold, the company is also launching a new service named “Galaxy Fold Premier Service,” which will help the users on how to use and handle the new smartphone. It is expected the service will be free of cost and offer an in-person consultation for the users, and Samsung will be appointing experts for the task. These experts will guide the users on how to protect and carefully use the smartphone.

The reason for launching such a service is that the company do not want to take any risks. Though Samsung was ready to launch the smartphone in the spring-time frame, it had to delay the launch due to the wrong went testing of the smartphone. Many of the reviewers whom the company had sent the smartphone for the tests, returned it back damaged. But after Samsung has done some tough work on the same, it wants to train people how to handle it, so that the blame of any sort of damage does not go entirely to the company.

Galaxy Note 10 Series to Get Major Microsoft Apps, as a Result of New Samsung-Microsoft Partnership

Microsoft is one of the biggest tech company in the world, but it could not make a mark in the smartphone industry with its Windows phones. But now, the company has taken a step forward and has partnered with the biggest Android smartphone manufacturer company, Samsung.

Samsung just hosted its Unpacked event in the New York City, where it launched its Galaxy Note 10, Note 10 Plus, Note 10 5G, Galaxy Book S, and a few other Samsung devices. The Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella also attended the event and went on stage to announce the new partnership between the two companies.

The partnership will help Microsoft bundle a few of its apps to the Samsung Note 10 series smartphones. Through one of the features that the companies are combinedly getting to the phone is the mirroring of Androids apps to the Windows 10 systems using Microsoft’s Your Phone app. The users will be able to see their text messages, notifications, and even, the whole screen on their desktop or laptops’ screen by simply connecting the smartphone with a USB-C or USB-A cable. The users then can run all the apps of the phone on the PCs as well as make calls using the Your Phone app.

Other than the Your Phone app, the new Samsung Note 10 series smartphones will also render support for Microsoft’s OneDrive, Outlook, Microsoft Office, etc. With OneDrive the users will have an option other than Google Drive to store their data on the cloud. Also, the support for Outlook and Microsoft office will provide the users with a better way to process their documents over their smartphones.

“From calls and text messages to emails and photos, we’re making these everyday experiences great and the interactions between all the devices seamless,” Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella said while on stage, “the combination of Microsoft intelligent experiences and Samsung’s powerful, innovative new devices, like the Galaxy Note 10 and Galaxy Book S, make this possible.”

Most likely, the new partnership is entirely targetting on the rival company Apple, that already has got awesome built-in products on its iPhones. The main reason why iPhone users have always been afraid of switching to an Android phone. iPhone has already provided its users with the ability to send and receive text messages and e-mails through their Mac devices, and its productivity suite, iWork, is everything, a corporate user would want for all of their document related works.

But as Samsung has just joined its hands with Microsoft, to bring similar flexible features to its series of smartphones, it may be able to encourage the iPhone users to get Android smartphones.

Though the partnership between the two companies was big news, the event was solely to boast about the new Galaxy Note 10 series. Galaxy Fold : Samsung to Finally Launch its ‘Improved’ Foldable in September

Though not required, many of the smartphone development companies have announced their own foldable smartphones Samsung being one of the first to do so. Samsung had revealed that it is working on a foldable smartphone, Galaxy Fold, earlier this year, and even got to launch one. But the foldable from Samsung had numerous problems. This led to many controversies, and it became a fail.

But now the company has again come up with its foldable smartphone Galaxy Fold, and that, according to an announcement made by Samsung, will be launched in September. The company said that it has made all the required improvements to its Galaxy Fold, and it is ready for the launch.

“Earlier this year, we announced Galaxy Fold-Samsung’s first foldable device and the beginning of an entirely new mobile category. Since then, we’ve made improvements to the Galaxy Fold to ensure consumers have the best possible experience.” said one of the spokespersons from Galaxy Fold development division.

The main issue with the previous version of the foldable was the cracking of the screen when folded. But now the company has made some good changes to the smartphone that, according to the company claims, will protect the screen.

What are the New Improvements?

The foldable has a protective layer over the Infinity Flex Display. Samsung has extended this very protective layer beyond the bezel of the phone, making it attached to the phone. Thus the user cannot remove it by mere scratching.

The company has added the protection caps to the top and bottom of the hinge area of the smartphone. This way, it becomes even stronger. The company also took time to reduce the space between the body of the phone and the hinge.

To provide extra protection to the screen, Samsung has added an extra metal layer under the Infinity Flex Display.

“Samsung has taken the time to fully evaluate the product design, make necessary improvements and run rigorous tests to validate the changes we made,” said Samsung.

Reportedly, the company is aiming to improve the user experience and has even made some changes to the UX/UI of the smartphone. The company has not specified a particular date for the launch, but before September, it will be undertaking all sort of tests over the new Galaxy Fold.
