Users of WhatsApp On iOS May Soon Be Able To Search Messages By Date.

WhatsApp is always working on various innovative updates which are in the best interest of its users. It made it seamless to make UPI payments on WhatsApp for Users last week. At present time, WhatsApp is also developing a new feature. Using this the WhatsApp users will be able to search for the messages in the chat according to the date they were sent. Users can swiftly go to a particular date to read messages from that time. This feature will be useful when the users want to find out which messages were sent on a specific date.

More details on “new feature”

This “search message by date” function is still under development. The instant messaging app Meta-owned WhatsApp is always working on different technologies to enhance the user experience by developing and integrating new features like the ability to react to a particular message using emojis, the feature to mute specific people on voice calls, and much more.

According to a report by WaBetaInfo, it is still working to make it possible for users to search messages by date. The feature was initially found in 2020 by WaBetaInfo. However, at that time they did not make it available to the public after discarding the development. WhatsApp is planning to put this feature again after the test flight update is received for the WhatsApp beta (iOS 22.0.19.73).

“After releasing the WhatsApp beta for iOS 22.0.19.73 update from TestFlight, we discovered that WhatsApp is finally planning to release the feature in the future again,” the report stated.

How will the WhatsApp “search by date” feature work?

While developers are still working on this feature, however, when it would be completed, WhatsApp users will see a new calendar icon on the left side of the screen when tap on the search button to search for a message in the chat. Users can quickly get to a particular date and read all the messages from that specific date with the help of a calendar icon.

By clicking on the calendar icon, they can set the date according to their needs and see the chats. Also, they can get rid of the date view by just scrolling through the chat. This feature will help out in extracting messages or media from a certain date. Currently, since it is not available to the public because it is incomplete, users can search for messages only using keywords. This is your old search feature.

The search feature enables WhatsApp users to search for chats using a keyword. Here are the steps involved:

  • Open your WhatsApp application.
  • Tap on the burger menu in the top right corner of your screen.
  • You will see the Search option showing up among others, click on it.
  • Enter the keyword of your chat you want to search and you’ll get your messages with that keyword to appear on the screen.

Apart from this, WhatsApp is also working on developing a new feature that would let the user send the message to himself while using the desktop version and also, the survey feature. In this WhatsApp survey feature, users can fill out various surveys about the latest products, innovative services, app reviews, and much more after receiving an invitation. It will bring a verified chat to send invitations for surveys.

It is not decided yet when these features will be available to the public, but soon users will be able to test these in the beta version of WhatsApp.

All the Hangouts Data will be deleted by then. It assures the users that Hangouts on the Web and their conversations will be available till 1st November 2022.

Why is Google shifting from Hangouts to Chat?

Google is replacing and preferring Chats over Hangouts because it provides better and close integration with other Google workspace products. Also, there will be advanced and new features available too like a gif picker and Spaces, a steadfast place for the topic-based association. Hangouts App was getting outdated with its current feature set and chats are like a reasonable upgrade to the platform.

WhatsApp: Mark Zuckerberg Reveals New Privacy Features.

The most well-known instant messaging application worldwide, WhatsApp, acquired by Meta, has declared a new set of privacy features that would add a layer of security to visibility and chats. As a user, you can now exit groups quietly, select who can or cannot see that you are online, and will possess the power to block the other people from taking screenshots of messages with view-once settings.

“New privacy features coming to WhatsApp: exit group chats without notifying everyone, control who can see when you’re online, and prevent screenshots on view once messages. We’ll keep building new ways to protect your messages and keep them as private and secure as face-to-face conversations,” Mark Zuckerberg, chief executive officer and founder of Meta, said in a statement.

The online status and group exit updates will be led to implementing for all users, including on Android phones and the Apple iPhone, later this month. However, the View Once screenshot block feature would take a little longer. “This feature is being tested and will be rolled out to users soon,” Meta confirmed.

The New WhatsApp Features: Status, Visibility, And A Quiet Exit

The first update among the three that certainly stands out is the feature to keep your online status hidden from your contacts and only show who you want to show. It is the successive development of its previous feature, which came out in December last year. It enabled WhatsApp users to keep their online status hidden from strangers. If you don’t want your WhatsApp contacts to know your online availability when you’re busy, are engaged in another conversation, or just simply don’t want to reply. This feature comes with a toggle option you can turn this feature off or on according to your needs.

Until now, when you leave a WhatsApp group every member of the group would be notified that you exited from the group making it a fairly public activity. This could become the cause of some major inconveniences as people may bombard you with questions about why you left the group. WhatsApp solves this problem by bringing in its new feature that will only allow the group admins to get notified when you leave a group. Users can quietly exit the group without the other members knowing.

Whatsapp introduced the view-once feature last year in August that was exceptional in the sense it enabled the users to share a media or message which can be deleted after the recipient has seen it and no trace of the message would be left. But there was one flaw or loophole that the user could take a screenshot of that view-once message before it disappeared.

The second of the three introduced features will correct or dismiss this flaw or loophole. It would block the ability to take screenshots on any smartphone, while the view message is still showing on the screen.

According to WhatsApp in another update, it will enable the user to delete the message even after two days

“At WhatsApp, we’re focused on building product features that empower people to have more control and privacy over their messages. Over the years, we’ve added interlocking layers of protection to help keep their conversations secure, and the new features is one way we continue to deliver on our commitment to keep messages private,” Head of Product at WhatsApp, Ami Vora, stated.

WhatsApp isn’t Slowing Down On Updates

The launching time of these features varies according to Meta. But they have assured us that the features will be rolled out soon.

The features will be launched this month beginning in the UK.

imo

imo : Communication App Making the People Connect with Eachother Better

Out of the twenty initial employees that Google hired, only six still work there. This includes its founding fathers Larry Page and Sergey Brin. So what happened to the others? Are they off making ripples in other technology-based companies? Well, some of them definitely are, and this time around, we are looking at one such pair- George and Ralph Harik, the founders of imo.

Certain early Google employees became entrepreneurs in their own right, while others turned into angel investors, and several others worked their way up the corporate ladder and became top executives at different companies. A few of them even retired happily. But George Harik had other plans in mind when he left Google. He and his brother Ralph co-founded the messaging application imo.

The Harik brothers were born in Beirut, Lebanon, but grew up in the commercial capital, Dubai. Both were naturally interested in technology, with Georges starting his programming journey on an Apple II when he was just ten years old. The family moved to the US, and both brothers got degrees in computer science, with Georges graduating from the University of Michigan with a PhD and Ralph being an MIT alumnus, and taking up jobs centred around the Silicon Valley.

In 1999, Georges Harik got a call from a friend working at Silicon Graphics informing him that a friend of his was founding a company. Since he had a job of his own at the time, the invitation didn’t sound all that promising. Or that was, until Larry Page, sent him an email regarding Google, and invited him over for dinner. That dinner changed Harik’s life, as it convinced him to join Google.

Georges was recruited into Google’s initial engineering committee as a software engineer and worked at Google from 1999 to 2005. Following this, he left the company and invested in several other tech-based companies. While at Google, Georges served as the Director of Product Management and worked on applications such as Gmail, Google Talk, and Picasa. He also worked as the manager of Googlettes and was involved with the development of AdSense and AdWords Online. Following his exit from Google, he was an advisor for GV, which is the venture capital arm of Alphabet. Then he moved into the field of angel investing and funded several tech-start-ups and also co-founded hslabs, before joining his brother to found imo.

Meanwhile, Ralph was working for Oracle. The fact that Georges worked with Android applications, while at Google, opened his eyes to the future implications of this sector. This served as inspiration for him to collaborate with his brother and found a new startup. A few years down the line, the brothers quit their respective jobs and together founded the instant messaging application imo in 2007.

imo started as a web-based app and has since branched out to mobile networks, helping bridge communication gaps that existed. Ralph’s education at MIT gave him enough technical knowledge to handle imo’s initial coding in the early days. When it came to revenue generation, on the other hand, Georges’ training at Google gave him in-depth knowledge regarding internet advertising. Ralph, who is the CEO, handles the day-to-day management of the company, while Georges is tasked with product design and studying new technologies.

Since its inception, imo has grown to cover over seven million users as the application allows users to connect to more than eleven different messaging networks across various platforms such as desktops, tablets and smartphones. Users can use the application to text via either voice or video chat with other individuals or groups. The application utilises cloud storage, and hence every message sent and received via the app is stored on a web-based cloud. This allows users to switch devices with ease, significantly increasing the application’s accessibility. imo has also launched voice calling options for iOS users, making it easier than ever before to call up a loved one. Ralph enlisted his big brother Georges’ help to found the messaging app because he felt that the communication industry needed some radical changes.

While imo started out with just five employees, it now has over 20 people working for it from Palo Alto. The company has grown from being an innovative idea that two brothers had, to a considerable company whose product has over 4 million downloads with more than 50 million messages being sent every day.

Ted Livingston : The Journey of the Founder of Kik Messenger

Establishing a new innovative start-up is the ultimate dream of every young entrepreneur out there. And, especially, if a mind has both excellent technical skills and impressive business strategies, wonders can be created. But, how many of us realize that the real voyage begins after one has accomplished his or her dreams? Because with great power comes great responsibilities. Reaching the zenith is easier than holding onto it. It is obvious that one will face ups and downs during the entire journey of success, but one must be strong enough to not give up or choose a wrong path.

Ted Livingston, founder of Kik Messenger and an incredible tech genius, was sentenced to death in 9th June 2019 for committing fraud, drug trafficking and an endless chain of illegal activities. He confessed all of his crimes saying that he did everything to save his company from bankruptcy, though the press release gives enough evidence of Kik’s short-term success. He started the company after he was rejected by RIM (Research in Motion), which led him to join the Velocity program, and finally, open his own start-up. So, let’s have a look into Livingston’s life before he hit such a massive crisis.

Early Life

Livingston was born in 1987, in Toronto, Ontario to a prosperous family. His father was a financial advisor, and his mother worked in the advertising sector. From a very young age, Livingston showed a great interest in building robots, and he joined the robotics team of his school. He went to Crescent School in Toronto and graduated from there in 2005.

Higher Studies and Early Career

Ted Livingston founder kik

Livingston pursued a Bachelor’s degree in mechatronics at the University of Waterloo, but he dropped out later. During his time at the university, he took part in the Waterloo co-op program and landed placements at Honda and City of Toronto Government.

In 2007, he started working as a Systems Engineering Project Coordinator at RIM, and then, as a Technical Product Management Coordinator. The internship was a part of his engineering course, and, Livingston once said about it that the best part about the internship was having a smartphone with a full data plan which was very expensive at that time.

Since he acquired a very lucrative position at RIM, during his internship, he got to work with every product manager individually and learnt a lot of new things. He was so good at his job that his boss advised him not to go for a full-time job in RIM and rather open his own company. This was all the motivation he needed, and hence, he turned down the job at RIM in 2008.

Founding KiK

Ted went back to Waterloo to complete his Bachelor’s degree, but somehow he ended up participating in the Velocity program followed by founding KiK. At first, Livingston created KiK Music, which was then known as Unsycned for RIM (later known as Blackberry). The app was connected to BBM to allow users to share soundtracks via messenger. But, KiK had bigger plans, which were blatantly turned down by RIM. So, Livingston and his team started working on the Kik messaging app on their own, and it was released on 19th October 2010.

While messaging apps like WhatsApp and Ping were already ruling the market, KiK hit one million users within 15 days of its release. Pretty impressive for an infant company, isn’t it? Though KiK was initially released for iOS and BlackBerry, BlackBerry removed it in November 2010 from BlackBerry App World followed by filing a lawsuit against KiK, which was settled later in 2013.

Success of KiK

In 2014, KiK raised $38.3 million from Series C funding followed by $50 million in the next year, thus resulting in KiK’s total worth to $1 billion. Gradually, KiK decided to raise funding in cryptocurrencies, and it raised $125 million cryptocurrencies through an ICO in September 2017.

In June 2018, Kin Coin (for cryptocurrencies) was released officially in Beta version, and in the next month, Kinit Beta App was released which was exclusively for the US residents.

Death Sentence of Livingston

The news of Livingston’s death sentence hit like an unexpected jolt to the world. He was accused of multiple reasons which included conduction of an illegal ICO, drug trafficking, prostitution and fraud. And finally, he was given a death sentence by an SEC Commission.
