History

Three engineers from prestigious universities, Simon Azoulay, Laurent Schwarz, and Thierry Woog, formed Alten in 1988. Between 1988 and 1997, the company built up its presence in France and expanded its operations. In 1999, the company debuted its IPO on the Paris Stock Exchange. In 2012, expansion was made toward Asia and USA. Since then, the Group has focused on making strategic business acquisitions in Europe consistent with its core business, especially in 2016. Thus, the international percentage of Group revenue in 2019 was 56.8%.

A wholly owned part of the Alten Group, Alten India offers engineering, technology, and digital transformation services. Alten Spain fired over 100 workers between July and December 2012 under the pretext of declining sales. Alten Spain attempted to terminate 140 employees in December 2012 and reduce the compensation of the remaining staff by 10%. As a result, employees issued a strike notice in January 2013.

In violation of the permitted uses of the trademarked terms “Engineer” and “Engineering,” Alten unlawfully markets its business across Canada as an engineering and R&D outsourcing firm. The company has never obtained a Certificate of Authorization from a professional engineering licensing organization in Ontario or any other Canadian jurisdiction. The company’s business is officially registered in Canada to provide staffing services, specifically office support and temporary help services, under the name of a subsidiary company of Proex Inc.

Simon Azoulay, a French entrepreneur and the founder of Alten, formerly served as the chairman and chief executive officer of 18 different businesses. He is currently the CEO and Chairman at Alten. He is a Supélec alumnus. He created ALTEN with two other engineers in 1988 after overseeing the R&D department of Thalès.

History Of The Company

Version 1 was founded by Justin Keatinge and John Mullen. It was initially headquartered in Dublin, Ireland. Until 2011 the company had more than 150 consultants working for it and had yearly revenues of over €17.5 million. It was also included on the Deloitte Fast 50 list. The company expanded its Northern Ireland branch in 2014 and opened an office in London, United Kingdom. Version 1 was named as one of the best 50 workplaces in Europe after acquiring the UK-based Tieto Corporation. They later acquired UK companies named Patech Solutions and Roccella Group. By the end of the year, they had eight worldwide offices, over 500 consultants, and yearly revenues of €60 million. In 2017, Volpi Capital LLP acquired the majority of shares in Version 1 in a €100 million buyout of the company. With the money from the buyout, Version 1 was able to increase its activities in UK and Europe. After Justin Keatinge, the previous CEO, resigned in 2017, Tom O’Connor was chosen to lead Version 1. Keatinge stayed on the board of Version 1 and is still a significant stakeholder.

In 2018 the company declared an investment of €1 million in its Innovation Labs, whose core focus areas are: IoT, ChatBots, Virtual Reality, Machine Learning, and Augmented Reality. In 2018 the company acquired Cedar Consulting Ltd., an expert in HR Transformation.

Genpact is an American Multinational Business service provider firm. It provides solutions in digital transformation services like digital core, digital analytics, and Artificial Intelligence. It was legally domiciled in Bermuda, having its headquarters in New York City, New York. Its founder and former CEO is Pramod Bhasin, and NV Tyagarajan is the current CEO of Genpact. It has expanded its business in more than 30 countries, reaching a revenue of $4.14B (March 2022).

Foundation and History

Genpact was founded in 1997 by Pramod Bhasin as GE capital international services (GECIS), a Business Unit within Generic Electric with only 20 employees under the leadership of Pramod Bhasin. GECIS played a significant role in the growth of GE between 1998-2001. In 2003, GE reduced its stakes in GECIS by 40%.

Independence

Pramod Bhasin is a Wonderful Entrepreneur and former CEO of Genpact. he started Genpact and led it to the firm it has now become. He has a bachelor’s in commerce from Shri Ram College of Commerce and is a CA from Mclinktock & Co, London. He was head of GE capital In Asia and gave 25 years of his life to the growth of GE and Genpact. Genpact was awarded the Global Shared Service Leader of the Year under his leadership. He was also cited and awarded for his contribution. People also called him a finance wizard who started the BPO industry. He was a great Entrepreneur as well as a bright, down-to-earth human being.

NV Tyagarajan – CEO

He is the President and current Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Genpact. He is known as the Tiger Tyagarajan for his tremendous work in Generic Electrics. Tiger started his career in India with the Unilever Group and then moved to Citibank’s Consumer Financial Services business. He joined GE Capital in 1994 as head of Risk in India and became CEO of GE Capital’s Global Consumer Finance and Auto Financial Services business in India. In GE capital, he served as the global operating leader in the United States. Tiger to collaborates with C-suite executives of large multinational corporations, helping them drive change in their companies to improve their competitiveness. He majored in finance and marketing and holds a Master’s degree in Business administration from the Indian Institute of Management (Ahmedabad). Also, have a degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology (Mumbai). He led Genpact through its crucial time. He is also a core business strategist. He also works with a non-profit organization.

Atos – A French IT Company Formed By A Series Of Mergers In The Late 90s.

Atos is a famous French multinational IT conglomerate. Though the company officially launched in 2000, the history of its origin dates back to the late 90s. The company’s headquarters is based in Bezons, France. The main products of the company are IT services and consulting which includes cloud platforms, cybersecurity services, big data, unified communications, etc. Atos provides services on a global scale to multiple industries like financial services and insurance, healthcare & life science, manufacturing, public sector and defense, telecommunication and media, logistics, etc. The founder of the company is Bernard Bourigeaud and the present CEO is Elie Girard.

The Founding Story of Atos

The story of Atos dates back to 1996 when a company called Origin B.V. was founded by the merger of two companies. The two companies are Philips Communication & Processing division and BSO, a Dutch company. In 1997, the company was established as a result of a merger between Axime and Sligos, both French companies. In 2000, another merger took place between Atos and Origin B.V., and together they formed Atos Origin.

Early Years, Acquisitions, and Spin-Offs

In 2001, the company sold one of its divisions (Nordic Operations) to WM-data. In the subsequent years, Atos made big acquisitions by acquiring KPMG Consulting (in the UK and Netherlands). In 2004, the company acquired SchlumbergerSema (IT division of Schlumberger) and Itellium (only the infrastructure division). In 2004, the company also created a new subsidiary called Atos Worldline and made the Atos Consulting division more pronounced. The part of the company that originated from the Philips C&P during the early merger was sold to Fujitsu. The company has business across various continents but in 2005 and 2006 the company sold its part of Nordic and the Middle East business.

Bernard Bourigeaud, after founding the company, also played the role of its CEO till 2007. He was replaced by Philippe Germond in that year but again in 2008, Philippe was replaced by Thierry Breton. After a couple of years, the company acquired Venture Infotek, an Indian payment company, and expanded its business into the Indian market. Later in 2010, the company acquired the IT Services subsidiary of Siemens for €850 million. In 2014, Atos bought a controlling stake in Bull SA and Xeros’s IT Outsourcing business. The latter acquisition tripled the size of the company in the North American market. Atos, in 2018, went into a partnership with Google Cloud to offer secure AI systems. In July 2021, the company announced the acquisition of Visual BI, a leading company that exclusively focuses on Cloud Data Analytics and Business Intelligence.

Atos in Fighting COVID-19

Atos gathered all its technology and innovation resources to fight the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic last year. It supported the scientific community with its computing power and helped in accelerating vaccine research. Last year, to help the local authorities contain the spread of the virus, Atos created EpiSYS. It is an epidemic management system (EMS) that was built to store and manage all patient data and give healthcare professionals a view of the present epidemiological situation on a real-time basis. In 1969 J. Robert Beyster created the original SAIC. The company then spent a $4 billion unit on September 27, 2013, that retained its name, while the parent company changed its name to Leidos. After the split, SAIC designated Anthony J. Moraco as its CEO and the Leidos CEO was appointed as John P. Jumper.

On 4 May 2015, SAIC acquired 790 million dollars from Scitor Holdings, Inc. to expand its intelligence presence through classified contracts, cleared personnel, and robust safety infrastructure. Leonard Green & Partners, L.P., a private shareholding firm, previously owned Scitor. In a joint effort of $2.5 billion to mergers, which was set to occur in January 2019, SAIC announced on September 10, 2018, its acquisition of Engility, a competing U.S. government services market contractor.

On February 6, 2020, SAIC announced it had acquired a combined US$1.2 billion from UNISYS US Federal, a U.S. government contracting services competitor.

The Founder of SAIC, John Robert Beyster

Established in 1984, CDW Corporation is a provider of B2B IT services and products to the various entities of the US government and also state and federal government. The company also provides its IT services to various schools and organizations and non-profit health organizations. Apart from the United States, the company has its branches in Canada and the United Kingdom. Michael Krasny established the company as MPK Computing back in 1984. Today, CDW has approximately 10,000 employees and it has become a Fortune 500 company and member of the S&P 500 Index.

Founding Story of CDW Corporation

Michael Krasny, back when the company was a newborn, took a small ad in a free circulation newspaper because he wanted to sell his computer and printer. From this moment, he got the idea of renaming it as Computer Discount Warehouse which simply became CDW. The first national advertisement run by the company was in 1985 in PC World Magazine and after two years the company published its first catalog. In 1987, CDW started offering their first services and helping customers set up their computers. Eventually, the workforce expanded and they started hiring more technical expertise.

CDW Corporation was hiring new employees at a high rate and by 1995 it had more than 500 employees which tripled after three years. In 1997, the company established headquarters in Vernon Hills, IL, and celebrated its $1billion sales mark. Next year, a new sector of CDW was founded called CDW G which aimed exclusively at helping government and educational customers. By the end of the late 90s, CDW’s sales reached $2billion.

CDW in the 21st Century

In 2001, John Edwardson became the new CEO and Chairman of the company. The company listed on number 435 in the Fortune 500 company this year and the sales rose to $3.96billion. After a couple of years, the company made a big investment as it bought Micro Warehouse Canada, an asset of Micro Warehouse. In the following years, the company opened Western Distribution Center in Las Vegas, launched CDW Healthcare, opened new data centers and offices in various states. In 2006, the company acquired Berbee Information Network which was a top-tier reseller of IBM, Cisco, and Microsoft products and services.

On 12th October 2007, Madison Dearborn Partners and Providence Equity Partners from Chicago acquired CDW for $7billion. But the company again went public in 2013 through an IPO in the NASDAQ market under the name CDW Corporation. CDW Finance Corporation and CDW LLC are wholly owned subsidiaries. CWD Canada which is the Canadian branch of CDW has received a lot of recognition and ranked 25th in the category of large and multinational companies.

In 2011, the company started a new campaign called People Who Get IT which focused on new technology that solves everyday business problems. In 2013, the company ranked 267 in the Fortune 500 list. CDW established a new partnership with Dell, acquired a UK-based company Kelway and recently acquired Scalar Decisions, a Canadian solution provider. In 2019, Christine Leahy became the new CEO of the company. 

Currently, CDW is selling a wide range of products starting from hardware equipment to providing IT solutions. Starting from computer accessories to ethernet cables and projectors, cameras, drones, microphones, smartwatches, CDW is selling every tech I can think of. The company also sells software for business applications, security purposes, communication, etc. It also provides ample of choices brand-wise.

Michael Krasny – Founder of CDW Corporation

Born in the early 1950s, Michael Krasny is a famous American billionaire hailing from Illinois. Krasny went to the University of Illinois Gies College of Business and graduated in 1975. His career started by working as a Toyota car salesman but he left his job in 1981 and started learning computer programming. But, Krasny was unable to find steady work so he was forced to sell his own computer. While selling his computer, he understood that computers are having great demand and this gave birth to his new and successful business idea. Under his leadership, the CDW Corporation flourished but he left the company after the deal with Madison Dearborn Partners became successful.
