About The Company

As soon as you mention the name Dell, many people immediately think of personal computers. However, Dell Technologies (as the name implies) has expanded far beyond the PC market since its founding in a University of Texas dorm room 35 years ago. Aside from traditional PCs, Dell Technologies now has a stake in data storage and server technology, as well as data protection and networking.
At $8.50 per share and a market capitalization of $85 million, Dell went public in 1988 under the name “Dell Computer Corp.” Early on, the company enjoyed great success. Michael Dell was named the youngest CEO on the Fortune 500 list in 1992, at the age of 27 years old.
Dell had surpassed Compaq as the world’s largest PC manufacturer by 2001. Dell, on the other hand, was facing a tough road by 2013. Tablets and smartphones were causing a decline in the demand for PCs. Also in 2007, Dell announced it would be going private. Dell announced in 2015 that it would acquire EMC, the world’s largest technology acquisition to date. Dell Technologies re-entered the public markets in 2018 as Dell.
